In a work office situation, imagine a team of four of your peers, discussing on how to improve upon “People effectiveness”, so as to enable people to make decisions more effectively, progressively and proactively. None of them can use their highly effective minds unless someone comes up with a first solution or idea. Other way round, there will always be someone who makes the suggestions first.
As a common sight of experience, human mind starts judging the first aired ideas and then the discussion feeds upon itself. Discussion going nowhere, a moderator is born to get the team in a direction. How to manage such situations and drive discussions more effectively?
In school it is very practical to put worksheets, text books and black board in front of students. The students then asked to respond to what is before them. For these practical reasons, all the practical thinking taught in school is reactive and that’s how most of us have grown.(No matter latter some may do a MBA, it is then a question of straitening and grown up tree, there are always exceptions).
In real life situations there are people to be dealt with. There are decisions to be made. There are plans to be made and implemented. There are conflicts to be managed, bargaining and negotiations and so on. All these require great deal of thinking and operating skills. These will not come out of merely trainings on behavior aspects, conflict management etc unless the process of positive thinking is taught and practiced to increase overall system effectiveness.
